What is I-DEP ?

I-DEP is an acronym for Internet-based Distance Education Program.  It is a elementary/secondary education program run by the Bureau of  Education (BEE /BSE) of the Department of Education (DepED) of the Republic of the Philippines.  The program offers formal secondary education to qualifying students using Internet-based technologies.  The use of Internet-based technologies enables certain existing high schools to create and manage classes completely on-line.

Where is I-DEP offered ?

I-DEP is offered completely in the Internet.  This means that you can be residing anywhere in the world and be enroled in a Philippine-accredited formal secondary education.  However, your credentials will be issued by the participating I-DEP high schools where you are enroled in.   Currently, the following high schools will be offering the I-DEP curriculum:

Why offer I-DEP ?

I-DEP is offered for certain students were Internet-based learning is convenient and easily accessible.  It is not intended to replace real classroom and real teacher and student interaction.  It is intended for students who are unable to go to a regular school and the only way of getting a formal Philippine-accredited secondary education is through the Internet.

What is Home School ?
  1. The Family Code of the Philippines (Article 20) and Articles XIV & XV of the 1997 Philippine Constitution recognize that parents have the primary responsibility of training and educating children especially in their formative years.
  2.  In view of this, a home education program for children is proposed for implementation on a pilot basis for SY 1997-1998. The first year of implementation shall be limited to selected private institutions which shall be accredited by the DECS as implementor of the Program. It can expand to other schools after try-out period.
  3.  Home education is designed to provide an alternative delivery system of educating children who for some reasons or for other circumstances cannot avail of the formal system of instruction in a regular school. The program aims to:
    a. Develop the child’s potential in all areas of growth and development outside the formal system;
    b. Recognize parents’ complementary/supplementary role in the education of children;
    c. Provide literacy, numeracy and life-long skills through an alternative system of teaching and learning; and
    d. Promote the talents, interest and skills of the child that he/she may become a self-propelling, fulfilled and contributing member of a community.
  4.  The basic concept of the home education and the general guidelines to be observed for its implementation are embodied in Inclosure No. 1. To be accredited, a private school must submit its program for Home-Education following said guidelines.
  5.  The Bureau of Elementary and the Bureau of Secondary Education shall extend technical assistance to Regional/Division offices for the implementation of the program.
  6.  Immediate dissemination and compliance to this Memorandum is Desired.
  7. RATIONALE
    It is a well recognized and accepted fact founded on law, that parents have the primary responsibility to raise, rear, care for and train their children especially in their formative years. Some parents want to have direct hand in fulfilling this mandate through Home Education.

What is OHSP?

OHSP is an acronym for Open High School Program. It is an alternative mode of formal secondary education program run by the Bureau of Secondary Education (BSE) of the Department of Education (DepED) of the Republic of the Philippines. The program provides an opportunity for elementary school graduates, high school drop-outs and successful examinees of the Philippine Education Placement Test (PEPT) to complete secondary education in a purely distance learning mode. The program provides printed self-learning modules for students to use for their lessons and classroom activities. YoungJi international school is the pilot school for OHSP in Cavite. At the same time, YJIS is the First private School which got OHSP permit in the Philippines..

Where is OHSP offered ?

OHSP is available nationwide. All interested parties may contact the DORP Coordinator at the nearest DepED Regional Office. The DORP Coordinator will direct the applicant to the nearest schools division where EASE is offered. Why offer OHSP ?

OHSP is intended for students who would otherwise be unable to pursue formal secondary education due the rigid requirement of regular class schedules. It is an alternative to attending regular classes but is not designed to be beneficial to all students. Most students may still learn best by attending the regular formal secondary education.

When can I avail of OHSP ?

OHSP is available anytime. It is not dependent on the calendar of the regular school year. Student may start at their own time and at their own pacing, provided they complete their entire high education within a maximum period of six (6) years.

Who are qualified to enroll under OHSP ?

Students who wishes to avail of OHSP must meet the following qualifications:

  • Filipino citizen • Independent learner
  • Have completed the pre-requisite grade or year level
  • Must pass the Independence Learning Readiness Test (ILRT) and the Informal Reading Inventory (IRI)
